we respond to Joe as if he is someone we know, someone we’ve met in are past and we try to connect with the person he is and we feel for the way he is being treated regardless of the fact we know he’s alive as he wrote the book, he has been very brave through his struggle and we sympathies for the fact that there is nothing he can do about what is happening other then trying his hardest to walk back, and there is nothing we can do to help him even if we have some water in are hand i think this helps us to understand how lucky we are to have what we have e.g. water he would probably give one of his fingers for a bottle of water and we could probably go round the corner and get some.
